Our vision for oracy is…
To create an environment where children feel safe to express their ideas and where their speaking and listening skills are nurtured. Children will develop communication skills to equip them for success in the wider world. They will be able to hold a conversation; express their views; listen to other opinions and challenge respectfully; negotiate and manage conflict; have the words to express their feelings and engage in and focus on learning.

At our school, we place oracy at the heart of our curriculum because we recognise that the ability to speak and listen effectively underpins success in learning and in life. We want our curriculum to prioritise oracy so that children develop the confidence, vocabulary and communication skills that progress and deepen throughout their time with us.
Our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure that oracy skills are explicitly taught, modelled and practised across all subjects. Planned oracy opportunities are embedded within learning to support pupils in achieving National Curriculum objectives, enabling them to articulate their thinking, explain their understanding, ask questions and engage in meaningful discussion.
Through a progressive approach, children develop the physical, linguistic, cognitive and social-emotional aspects of speaking and listening. They are supported to speak clearly and audibly, use an increasingly rich vocabulary, organise their ideas coherently and listen and respond respectfully to others. Structured talk activities, collaborative learning, and high-quality questioning enable pupils to rehearse ideas, deepen understanding and build confidence.
